sooooo, you were/are in DC? Do you not realize how close to NJ that really is? Just because there are 3 states between the two, they are not Utah sized states. We would have come to see you... but alas, you will have to wait until we are in UT again, and who knows how long that might be?

I'm no joiner, but I am a supporter.

My Mom and Dad were smokers back when smoking was pretty much REQUIRED if your were an American. 2003, Dad died from lung cancer that had spread to every part of his body. Mom was "lucky", she died in 2006 from heart failure brought on by a previous triple bypass necessitated by arterial plaque from the cigarettes.

I think it's every American's right to smoke if they want to... That is if they "want to" screw up their health, screw up their families, screw up the insurance companies (footing the bill for their self-destructive lifestyles) and screw up the minds of their impressionable grandkids, some of whom were smokiing after their Grandparents' funerals.

More power to you and your cause.

Thanks so much for your comment. I'm truly sorry about your parents. A good friend of mine lost her in February (he was a former smoker) to lung cancer that had spread: That entry is here.

If you come back soon, I'm going to tell people a way to be a "joiner" without really being a "joiner." That will make more sense later....

I really do take dreadful pictures. And often I inadvertantly end up with just one ear of the top of my head or something in a picture. And, because it was LIVESTRONG® Day, I DELIBERATELY changed positions when some man with big hair came and stood in front of me. Anyway, I guess being un-photogenic is one of my special skills?

You look really really good! I love the haircut, which is probably not new, but since you never post pictures, how would I know. What is it you are holding out to the camera?

BTW, where are you, exactly? I'm staying longer and I'd love to see you but have no sense of where you are located and am too lazy to look at a map...

We're just outside of Philadelphia. Only about 1.5 hours from Baltimore, so you should definitely make your way up here! Have you ever been to the birthplace of liberty? That would be Philadelphia. Or maybe it's the cradle of liberty. Either way, definitely worth a trip.

Yes, I've been to the birthplace of liberty. It was twenty years ago, however. I shouldn't admit this part, but I was a junior in high school and we were on an "Eastern" choir tour during which we covered about every major landmark in New York, D.C. and Philadelphia in five minutes (okay - TEN). Wait - we even had time to accost an Amish man who had the misfortune of plowing his field next to the highway as two busloads of high school students drove past. The director had - hmmmm- no social graces whatsoever? Therefore we assaulted the man with singing. He listened very graciously, though you could tell that he and his horse were very anxious to get back to work.

Oh - and I had sushi for the first time in Philadelphia. We had a Japanese foreign exchange student with us, and we made her read everything in the restaurant and translate it for us (even the chairs).

Is there some sort of likely public transportation out there? Even though itâ??s all about ME and Iâ??ve extended my trip (meaning my stay will have been over a month â?? what is it they say about fish, guests and stinky feet?) David and Julianne still seem to think they should have LIVES. Even though theyâ??ve taken me lots and lots of places and fed me homemade healthy food for EVERY MEAL (except crab-cake night, IKEA meatball night and Indian food at the Old Post Office in D.C. Day), they are deigning to have a handful activities that do not directly involve ME. Sheesh.

Anyway, you can take the Amtrak pretty easily, and I know there's some cheap-o bus because Ammon's dad takes it from the DC area all the time. In fact, if you come the weekend of father's day, you can just ride up with him! Hahaha! You would know how to deal with him seeing as he has much in common with your father.

Warning: we RARELY home-cook anything, unless the microwave counts as cooking.
