Simon CraigVodosek 5/17/1997 - 8/6/2004
Simon Craig Vodosek,
beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, classmate, student, and friend,
died at home in the arms of his parents on August 6, 2004 after a three-year
struggle with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. Born May 17, 1997 in Ann Arbor,
Michigan, Simon moved with his family to Salt Lake City in 2003. He completed
kindergarten at the Ann Arbor Open
School and first grade at Uintah Elementary in Salt Lake City. Simon is survived
by his mother, Mary Craig; father, Markus Vodosek; sister, Miriam Craig Vodosek;
grandparents Ann and Norman Craig of Oberlin, Ohio and Irmgard and Peter Vodosek
of Stuttgart, Germany; great-grandmother Marianne Vodosek of Linz, Austria;
aunts Julie Craig Lautens, Christina Vodosek, and Jocelyn Sisson; uncles David
Craig and Mark Lautens; cousins Margot and Nathan Lautens, Claudia and Eliza
Craig; and extended family in the United States and Europe in the Williams,
Tabbutt, Vodosek, Stepanek, and Pammer families. In spite of the pain and
treatment related to his illness, Simon lived a full and joyous life, touching
many people and places in his brief seven years. He received loving, expert
medical care in Ann Arbor, New York City, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco. A
memorial service (all ages welcome) will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at
11 a.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City (569 S. 1300 E.)
Pre-service activities for children will begin at 10 a.m. To honor Simon's
beautiful spirit, the family has established the Simon Craig Vodosek Memorial
