FWiC Launch

It is with great pleasure (and a fair of amount of sleep deprivation) that I announce the launch of FWiC. FWiC is a new project started started by Maria and me as a venue to encourage unsafe practices and “Flirting With Crap.” I’m not talking about MTV’s Jackass. Routine, ready aesthetics, and tradition can sometimes be detrimental to growth, so we wanted to encourage people to do something different.

FWiC will cycle monthly, each time with a new theme. The premiere cycle focuses on failure. We chose failure as a theme to highlight the fact that we hope for and almost expect failure from FWiC participants. The more danger there is of failure, the greater the distance from safe aesthetics.

We are really excited to get it off the ground. I think the impetus behing FWiC is partly fueled by the frustration I encountered in graduate school combined with a general distrust of capitalist culture (is that an oxymoron?). So we wanted to do something where “success” is not the expectation and money isn’t determining what “success” is.
