This arrived in the mail today:
I haven’t had a chance to watch the DVD yet, but the nine-minute version of “Inconsolable” is already in heavy rotation in the car.

Gotta LOVE Jonatha Brooke. Gotta LOVE Jonatha Brooke live (she’s always so good and has great bands…). Gotta LOVE Inconsolable. HOWEVER, NINE MINUTES AND FIFTEEN SECONDS? I have to say, I like some extended improvisation when I’m THERE - it feels intimate and special - “Look at them go off FOR US! WOO WOO WOO WOO WOO!!!” Do I generally say “WOO WOO WOO?” Hmmm. And I’m sure that the folks in New York who DID hear all that extemporaneous stuff live appreciated it (WOO WOO WOO?), but listening to the recording of it, I began to feel like it was (dare I say this?) operatic and self-indulgent. Secretly, I’m just jealous that those people got to go to such a great concert…

Here’s the REAL heresy: I think they should have cut down her piano solo in the original version of Inconsolable (I read or heard her [Jonatha] say somewhere that she fought to have the whole solo put in, and I think it would have been a more elegant choice to have a SHORTER solo…). Nevertheless, Inconsolable is still one of my all time favourite songs.

I may or may not need a copy of that nine-minute version of “Inconsolable”. The six-minute version has been in heavy rotation this week.. I could use a slight variation :)

Despite any snooty-type critical comments I may have written, I’ve listened to the album non-stop every time I have the computer on. Gotta update my iPod…
She really is a GODDESS - e.e. cummings? Judicious use of the clarinet? GODFREY (who is HOT - saw him in concert with her once - AND he has an “E-Bow” - serious chops, Looks AND funky electronic devices…)? Not only is SHE wondrous and all, she surrounds herself with the best.

Oh boy. I love Jonatha. I think she is one of my very best really ultimate all-time most extreme favorites. Wow. She is amazing. And I love several songs that she did when she was still part of The Story. Fatso, for example. Oh boy.
